J&K Government Employees Joint Action Committee (JKEJAC) on Saturday staged a peaceful protest at the Press Enclave demanding the security and protection for Darbar employees in Jammu.

The protesting employees while shouting anti-administration slogans sought the intervention of authorities and security to Kashmiris in Jammu. “If you can’t prevent them from harm, at least make sure a safe passage for their return,” one of the protesting employees said.

The president of the association, Owais Wani said that the employees, their families and students outside Kashmir are facing serious threats. “The government should take immediate and quick action for the protection of Kashmiris and local Muslims, if not, we will shut down whole Kashmir,” the president said.

“We had already appealed to the district and divisional administration Jammu to provide full security to quarters of Darbar employees but the administration is not dealing with the situation seriously, ”he added.

“I talked to my friend there in the morning. He said that they have not even left their quarters. They have no protection. They are being attacked and pelted with stones,” said Zahoor Ahmad, a PDD employee.

Another protestor said that Kashmiris’ are being harassed throughout Jammu city especially in Janipora. “If this doesn’t stop Kashmir will be on fire. We have always been peaceful and harmonious with the outsiders in Kashmir so should they,” he added.

Pertinently, reports of clashes and vehicles being burned down in Jammu were coming in. However, the police claimed that the situation is under control.
