SRINAGAR: Taekwondo player Afreen Hyder has become the first athlete from Jammu and Kashmir to win a silver medal in Kyorugi for the UT.

Afreen represented Jammu and Kashmir at the 39th National Senior Taekwondo Championships held at Guwahati, Assam between 9 to 11 September. The Championship was organized by the All Assam Taekwondo Association, under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India and recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

She won her first fight against Rajasthan, second fight against Sikkim, third fight against Manipur and fourth fight against Madhya Pradesh. However, in the final round she lost to Kerala.
