The Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation has won the ‘All India Invitation Malwa Football Tournament 2013’.
The JKSPDC’s football team defeated Sahara India Lucknow 2-0 in the final on February 4, 2013 played at Sironj in Badesha District of Madya Pradesh. The winning goals were scored by Gulzar and Damny.
The team has been awarded with cash reward of Rs 100000, meanwhile for their outstanding performance, Gulzar was declared man of the match, while as Damny as man of the tournament. In addition to cash reward, Gulzar and Damny were given Rs 11000 each. The proceeding of match were shown live on ETV channel.
This is the second time the team has won a national tournament in a short span of 2 years from its formation.
According to officials, the growth of team as a potent force is mainly attributed to the personal interest of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also the Chairman of the Corporation and Basharat Ahmad Dhar , the Managing Director of the Corporation who are taking personal interest in the development of the team.
The team is now leaving for Nagpur to participate in another National level tournament from February 7, 2013 to February 17, 2013 and is considered to be hot favourites to win the tournament.
