SRINAGAR: During the financial year 2023-24, the JK Yateem Foundation allocated Rs 256 lakh towards a range of educational, welfare, and rehabilitation initiatives, positively impacting numerous underprivileged families.

A spokesperson for JKYF, in a statement issued to press said that based on unaudited accounts, an amount of Rs 2.56 crore was spent on over a dozen educational, welfare, empowerment, and rehabilitation programmes aimed at bringing positive changes in the lives of several thousand orphans, widows, and poor and destitute families.

He stated that within the BAITUL HILAL (Orphanage) programme, more than Rs 75 lakh was utilised, aiding over 140 impoverished orphan children by providing for their boarding and lodging, education, healthcare, and additional expenses.

Similarly, over Rs 73 lakh was spent under the Widow Welfare Programme (WWP), benefitting around 1,100 widow-headed families.

Over Rs 33 lakh has been spent on the Poor Welfare Programme (PWP), while over Rs 16 lakh was spent on the Marriage Assistance Programme, the spokesman said.

Under the Higher Education Scholarship Programme (HESP) and Educational Assistance for Girls (EAG), an amount of over Rs 5 lakh was spent during the said period, he added.

The spokesperson further added that JKYF is running Al HILAL Diagnostic Centre in the Aaveran Karan Nagar area of Srinagar on a No Profit No Loss basis. He said that 56 thousand patients were assisted and facilitated at SMHS Hospital pantries run by JKYF.

Meanwhile, Chairman of JKYF, Mohammad Ahsan Rather, said that JKYF is continuing its welfare, rehabilitation, and empowerment programmes for various categories of deserving people in our society.

He said that it is because of the generous and magnanimous support of the donors, contributors, and well-wishers that JKYF is able to contribute its bit in reaching out to the deserving sections in the best possible transparent manner, which helps them become self-reliant.

Extending his heartfelt gratitude for continuous support, Rather appealed to people to visit BAITUL HILALS at Jawahar Nagar Srinagar, Chawalgam Kulgam, Hudri Kishtwar, besides Iqbal Nagar Sopore, and also district offices to have a firsthand experience during interaction with Baitul Hilal scholars and volunteers.
