SRINAGAR: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has sealed around five shops in Moti Bazar over alleged encroachment, prompting protests from shopkeepers and a decision by the market association to shut the bazaar in response to the action.
The shopkeepers expressed anger after finding their establishments sealed, claiming they had not been informed in advance about the action.
The JMC, however, said notices had been served on the shopkeepers 10 days earlier, asking them to respond to the encroachment allegations. As no response was received, the corporation proceeded with the sealing, according to officials.
The affected traders said the action came during the festival season, when businesses are witnessing increased activity, and urged the corporation not to disrupt commercial operations at this time.
Following the sealing, the market association decided to close Moti Bazar in protest against the JMC action.
