The joint resistance leadership has paid tributes to the late leader of Umat-e-Islami Dr Qazi Nisar on his 24th anniversary.

Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani while hailing the religious, social, and political contribution of Qazi Nisar said he was a religious scholar and a humble person.

On the directions of Geelani, a high-level delegation of Hurriyat (G) comprising Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani, Hakeem Abdul Rashid and Bilal Sidiqi participated in Fateh Khawani of Qazi Nisar held in Islamabad.

Hurriyat (G) chairman also slammed authorities for detaining resistance leaders Qazi Yasir, Hakim Abdul Rashid and Shabir Ahmad Dar and disallowing congregational prayers at Anantnag to remember Qazi Nisar on his anniversary.

He termed the police action as “autocratic”, saying “authorities don’t even allow us to offer our tributes to slain leaders”.

Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his tributes said that Qazi Nisar was a great scholar, religious, political and social leader, and his contribution will always be remembered.

“Qazi Nisar as a noted religious scholar and popular political leader dedicated his life to a noble and just cause of Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said, adding, “The sacrifices given by the people and the leadership are priceless and cannot be forgotten”

“We need to rededicate ourselves not only to preserve these sacrifices but make all efforts to take the ongoing movement towards its final goal of freedom,” he said.

Mirwaiz also visited SKIMS to enquire about the condition of the Soura youth Abdul Majeed who was seriously injured after being hit by pellets by government forces. He prayed for the youth’s speedy recovery.

Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammad Yasin Malik while paying tributes to Qazi Nisar said, “Qazi sahib was a prolific Kashmiri scholar, religious, political and social leader. His struggle and sacrifices cannot be ignored by anyone and today we all express our gratitude and love for that noble soul.”

Malik said that personalities like Qazi Nisar are rarely born and “today when we remember this great soul, we recall his sacrifices, valour and passion for freedom”.

He prayed for the heavenly abode of “great martyr”.
