Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the human rights violations in Kashmir. “United Nations and UNHRC should take cognizance of rights violations in Kashmir,” Geelani said in a statement.

Referring to the prevailing situation, Geelani said, “Authorities in Delhi through military might seem desperate to cow down our spirits, however, all the follies played by them will culminate in their defeat. Representing the sentiments and aspirations of people, it has remained our stance and we have been saying that we will never succumb to any pressure and will take the movement to its logical end.”

He said the state authorities and Delhi are killing innocent people and inflicting brutalities.

Referring to incarcerated DeM chairperson Syeda Asiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and others, Hurriyat(G) chairman hailed their contribution and said: “the state authorities without any legal justification are prolonging their detention”.

“Despite unabated killings, plunder, arson, showering bullets and pellets on public gatherings, maiming and blinding innocent children, brute torture of youth, they failed to break the resolve and commitment of people,” he said.

Blaming police authorities for repeatedly slapping PSA on the incarcerated chief of Muslim League Jammu Kashmir, Masarat Alam, Geelani said that booking Alam under PSA on “fake grounds” and prolonging his detention is condemnable.

Referring to detained Mir Hafeez Ullah and Ameer Hamza Shah, Geelani said these Hurriyat leaders are being subjected to vengeance. “The unjustified detention won’t cow down our spirits,” he said.

Condemning the “detention and nocturnal raids” on residences of resistance leaders, Hurriyat (G) chairman said, “It is extremely unwise to deny political space and muzzle genuine voices.”

“The night raids are unbearable and unacceptable,” Geelani said, adding, “Police in a bid to prove themselves as more loyal than the king are surpassing all limits.”

“Despite detentions, arbitrary measures and harassment, the freedom mission will be carried to its logical end,” Geelani added.
