Congratulating panches, sarpanches and party cadres of National Conference and Congress for ensuring thumping victory for all the four coalition candidates in the elections to Legislative Council seats reserved for panchayats, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday said, that the overwhelming victory of coalition candidates is heavy jolt to those(PDP) who indulged in malicious propaganda against the coalition and tried their best to create wedge between the workers of Congress and National Conference at grass roots.
“The workers of both Congress and National Conference deserve applaud for giving clear cut message to their detractors that the coalition is as strong at the grassroots as it is at the top level,” Omar Abdullah said to jubilant groups of panches, sarpanches and party workers of National Conference and Congress in Jammu who arrived at his residence carrying the winning candidates Dr. Shenaz Ganai and Sham Lal Bhagat in processions.
“Your victory is appropriate reply to those (PDP leadership) who remained engaged in propagating the false conception that NC-Congress coalition was not effective and cohesive at the lower level”, he said adding that the wholehearted support of panchs and sarpanchs to coalition candidates has also nullified their (PDP leadership) propaganda that panchayat members have fallen apart from coalition partners.
Omar said, “They (PDP leadership) tried their utmost to create confusion in the minds of panches and sarpanches and let loose unabated, malicious propaganda in this regard but failed miserably.”
Omar asked the workers not to be complacent with the victory achieved by the coalition in the Council elections.
“Work hard and remain closely associated with each other and with the common people in every area and at all levels,” he emphasized and said that workers of National Conference and Congress parties have to further strengthen coalition and have to stand like a rock against the propagandist elements.
The National Conference working president said that the victory made possible by the hard and sincere efforts of the party cadres of both NC and Congress should be indicative of the cooperation and coordination the workers of the two parties have shown.
“Your real test will be in 2014”, he added and told the workers to show same spirit and determination during the next assembly elections and depict coalition charisma.
Omar Abdullah expressed confidence that victorious coalition candidates would work to the best of their capacity to strengthen panchayat system and ensure its growth and development.
“I am confident that the winning candidates will devote their fullest attention towards welfare and empowerment of panches and sarpanches in the House and outside”, he maintained.
Omar Abdullah referred to the efforts of Pradesh Congress President Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz and Union Minister Gh. Nabi Azad in ensuring the extraordinary victory of coalition candidates in the election of Council seats. He said he and Soz jointly addressed rallies of panches and sarpanches across the state.
The Chief Minister also congratulated the NC-Congress party workers and leaders on behalf of President National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah and said, “Dr. Sahib has telephonically asked him to convey his message to the party workers of both Congress and National Conference for showing unity and strengthening the coalition”.
