State Vigilance Organization caught red handed junior assistant in SDM office, Abdul Qayoom Khan, resident of Nambla Uri, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5000 from the complainant, Lal Din, resident of Balkote Tehsil Uri.

Lal Din lodged a written complaint with SP Vigilance Organization Kashmir stating therein that his land under Khasra No: 144/Min in which walnut trees were existing came under road, being constructed under PMGSY programme at Balkote Uri. “That 12 number of walnut trees were cut down from my land and an amount of Rs. 1,23,000/- has been estimated and bill prepared by the concerned department as compensation of these trees. The compensation papers are lying in SDM office, Uri. In order to process/release the said amount Junior Assistant Abdul Qayoom of SDM office Uri demanded illegal gratification of Rs. 5000 from the complainant,” read the complaint.

Taking action, vigilance organization registered case FIR No: 1/2012 u/s section 5 (2) PC Act r/w section 161 RPC P/S and investigation was taken up.

During investigation the officials of State Vigilance Organization organized a trap and accused Abdul Qayoom Khan was caught red handed while demanding and accepting phenolphthalein dusted amount of Rs. 5000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witness.

The tainted bride money was recovered and the accused taken into custody for further investigations.
