SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that those behind the Pahalgam terror attack, including the conspirators, will face harsh punishment and that justice will be ensured for the victims.
Speaking during his Mann Ki Baat address, PM Modi said the unity of 140 crore Indians remains the country’s biggest strength in the fight against militancy. He said that his heart is filled with pain and that the entire nation is seething with anger over the attack, which killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists.
Modi said the attack reflects the frustration of militants and their handlers at a time when peace is returning to Kashmir, tourism is growing, democracy is strengthening, and new opportunities are emerging for the youth. He said that enemies of the country and Kashmir are trying to disrupt this progress and want the Valley to suffer again.
He said that India is speaking in one voice against terror, and this solidarity is the foundation of the country’s fight against such acts. He noted that people across states and languages stand together with the families of the victims.
On Tuesday, attackers opened fire at Baisaran, a tourist spot in the upper reaches of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, killing 26 people.
During the address, PM Modi also paid tribute to former ISRO head K Kasturirangan, who passed away on Friday, recognising his contribution to science and nation-building.
