Amid continuous border skirmishes between Pakistan and India, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan General Raheel Sharif Saturday said the resolution of Kashmir issue was imperative in order to establish sustainable peace in the region.

According to media reports, Raheel Sharif while raising Kashmir issue said that this long-pending issue should be resolved in the light of UN resolutions.

Pakistan Chief of Army Staff who was addressing a passing-out parade held at Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, said that the Kashmir issue which is key to peace and progress in the Sub-continent should be resolved in light of United Nations resolutions.

The Army Chief, in his address, said the people of Kashmir should decide their fate as the quest for peace is the nation’s greatest strength.

“Lasting peace in the region will only come about with a fair and just resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the will of Kashmiri people, as enshrined in the UN resolution,” said General Sharif.

General Sharif also said the armed forces were fully capable of responding to any external threat.

“Let there be no doubt that any aggression against our beloved country will get a befitting response; no sacrifice will be too great in this sacred cause,” Sharif emphasized. The border skirmishes resulted in the death of 20 persons on both the sides of the Line of Control.
