A 23-year old youth from Kangan area of Ganderbal with a pellet injury in head is battling for life at SKIMS Soura here, doctors said.

The injured youth identified as Gowhar Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Rehman a resident of Kangan town in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Protests had erupted in Kangan after he was injured yesterday. While the locals said that Rather was hit by a bullet, Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed that he fell down during a police chase and suffered a head injury after hitting a drain edge.

Gowhar continues to be on a ventilator, his condition is really very bad, says the doctors treating him in the Intensive Care Unit of SKIMS.

“His BP is not maintained. He is on a triple support which means he is very critical.” The doctor added, “All pellets have pierced into his brain. He is brain dead.”
