District Magistrate Ganderbal Tuesday announced the imposition of restriction under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
A 22-year-old youth suffered head injury yesterday after being chased by the Police in Kangan.
Protests had erupted in Kangan after he was injured yesterday. While the locals said that Rather was hit by a bullet, Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed that he fell down during a police chase and suffered a head injury after hitting a drain edge.
A doctor at SKIMS said that the youth’s condition is “very critical” and he has been placed on a ventilator.
Section 144 prohibits free assembly of more than four people in an area. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in huge numbers on the roads in and around Kangan amid the complete shutdown.
