SRINAGAR: At least three residential houses were destroyed in a major fire that broke out in Yachama village of Kangan. It was a morning mishap so there were no losses of life.

By the time, the fire tenders reached the spot, the mostly-wooden houses were razed to the ground. Officials, however, said only two houses were destroyed.

Authorities said they are investigating to know the causes of the fire. Fire tenders took their time in reaching the spot as the village has a bridge connecting it with the main road but lacks a road. Residents alleged that the contractor who built the bridge is still unpaid as part of his payment is still withheld. Apart from firefighters, police and civil administration officers were present later.

It was not immediately known if all the three houses belonged to the same person.
