As the Kargil Winter Games, 2013 (Annual District Kargil Ice Hockey Championship) concluded at Ice Hockey Rink Kargil, the deputy commissioner Kargil, Fida Hussain informed that government has sanctioned Rs 9 crore for the construction of International Ice Hockey Stadium and another project of Rs 45 crores has been submitted to the government of India for the said purpose, which will be sanctioned soon.

In the final match, 5 teams from different blocks of Kargil along with 105 participants had participated. The tournament, organized by KISS Club and sponsored by J&K sports Council, was won by Adventure Sports Club Drass which defeated Nindum Club Khangral by one goal.

On this Occasion Deputy Commissioner Kargil Fida Hussain was the chief guest and district youth service and sports officer Kargil Haji Mirza Hussain was the guest of honour.

As per a statement, Fida Hussain, talking on this occasion, has said that the district administration is doing its best effort to flourish winter sports in Kargil. He said new projects like Ice Hockey Rink will come up in Drass as well along with Horse Polo development for which projects has been sanctioned. Deputy Commissioner has directed the Youth Service and Sports Department to prepare projects for developing infrastructure at block level, so that winter sports may be uplift in the future.

He further added that youth should take up such sports as profession and their performance if excels at national and international levels.
