SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the desiring people to have their weddings in Kashmir. In his speech, he focused on various areas around the tourism sector and insisted that footfalls will go up with new interventions.

“There was a time when people used to say, who will go to Jammu and Kashmir for tourism?” Modi said in his speech. “Today, tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is breaking all the records. In 2023, more than two crore tourists have come here.”

The Prime Minister said that big celebrities and stars from across the world also come to Jammu and Kashmir. “They shoot their videos and reels and make them viral,” he said. He said Kashmir is ideally suited for a film city and hinted that it will happen in the coming days.

Modi said that alongside Made in India, he has been talking about Wed In India. Instead of flying abroad for marriages and spending a lot of dollars, he suggested, that people should plan their weddings in Kashmir and have three-four days of marriage ceremonies and spend here.

“If you have sincerity of purpose the outcomes are better,” Modi said, while talking about the tourism sector. “We have broken all the records of tourist arrivals only in 2023,” he said. However, he suggested that visitors ensure they spend five to ten per cent of their budget at the destinations so that the people benefit. “It is not all right that you go, visit, see and return,” the Prime Minister said. “Spend part of your budget everywhere you go.” He said he made some purchases as he liked some items.

Prime Minister said Kashmir is emerging as a sports capital, especially for the winter games. In the just concluded winter games, he said 1000 athletes came from across the country. He said the government has created sports infrastructure in most of the districts across Jammu and Kashmir in last five years.
