SRINAGAR: Suhail Qasim Mir, a 2017-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Punjab cadre, has been posted as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Bathinda, succeeding Jyoti Yadav.
Mir, who hails from Sirhama village in Bijbehara, Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, was serving as Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Personnel-1, at the Central Police Organisation (CPO), Punjab, before being given the district command.
The transfer and posting order was issued by the Department of Home Affairs, Home-I Branch, Punjab, and signed by Alok Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab, with the approval of the competent authority.
Mir joined the IPS in the Punjab cadre in 2017 after clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his first attempt in 2016, securing an All India Rank of 125.
Before his recent headquarters posting, Mir served as SSP Amritsar Rural, where he led police operations against drug trafficking networks and cross-border smuggling. He has also served as SSP Pathankot and SSP Batala.
Mir is the son of Mohammad Qasim Mir, a retired Head Constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. He holds an MBA degree from Jammu.
With his appointment as SSP Bathinda, Mir returns to a district-level field command in Punjab.
