The bus, operated by Star World Ventures and registered in Jammu and Kashmir, was travelling from Delhi to Srinagar when the incident reportedly occurred near Divine Star Dhaba. The attackers allegedly abused the driver before pelting the vehicle, damaging its window glass, reports said.

Around 40 passengers were on board at the time.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the incident and urged the Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Haryana Police to identify those involved and take appropriate action.

In a post on X, Abdullah described the incident as unfortunate and expressed hope that the alleged attackers would be apprehended to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Peoples Democratic Party leader Waheed Parra said the bus was attacked with bricks while passengers were asleep and that an elderly Kashmiri man was left bleeding.

He also alleged that reports suggested police had targeted passengers instead of the attackers, calling for arrests and accountability.

National Conference leader Imran Nabi Dar also condemned the alleged attack, describing it as a hate crime. He said the incident had left families travelling on the bus frightened and called on Haryana Police to take cognisance of the matter, identify those responsible and initiate action against them.

Haryana Police have not issued a statement on the incident so far.

Further details are awaited.
