Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar Monday joined thousands of energized students at Government Degree College Sopore to witness the concluding day of highly successful Inter-College Tarana Festival 2016.
The event saw the participation of 16 colleges from all over Kashmir who sang songs praising their respective colleges and the valley of Kashmir, an official spokesperson said this evening.
While appreciating the talent exhibited by college teams, Akhtar said the youth of Kashmir are second to none in any kind of talent. “We are witnessing a change in every sector, be it academics or extra-curricular activities. Our Super 50 coaching programme gave us more than 25 students who have cracked IIT-JEE and other competitive examinations this year,” said Akhtar.
“Concurrently we are upgrading our system in such a way that it produces sportspersons, athletes, musicians, artists and other such people. And today’s event is a small step towards that direction.”
The Minister said that youth are changing the destiny of Kashmir and government will help in every possible way to take this movement to the next level. “Since Shah Faesal got the first position at IAS, 60 youth from Kashmir have cracked IAS, IPS and associated exams,” said Akhtar.
The Minister said Kashmir has been the centre of learning for thousands of years, and scholars from all over the world used to come here. “We need to occupy the space that got vacated during the recent past due to varied reasons. And I am sure with such talent we will occupy the country with our intellect, knowledge and superiority,” said Akhtar.
The Minister asked the youth of Sopore to lead the movement that will put Kashmir at the highest pedestal of excellence. “The passport of today’s youth is his skill and talent and with it he or she can conquer the world,” said Akhtar.
Government Degree College Islamabad bagged first position in the competition, Government Women’s College Nawakadal and Amar Singh College tied up for second position and third position was bagged by Government College for Women M A Road Srinagar.
Eminent artists like Kailash Mehra, Gurmit Kour, Waheed Jeelani and Tanha Nizami were among the panel of judges that also included Hawa Bashir.
After the scintillating performance by students from different colleges, Waheed Mirza, Shafiq Sopori and Kailash Mehra also mesmerized the audience with their songs.
The Minister announced Rs 1 lakh each for all the 16 colleges for buying orchestra.
