After Kashmir University introduced CBCS (Choice based Credit System) last academic year, the colleges across Kashmir have also decided to introduce CBCS from this academic session.
Talking to Kashmir Life Dean academic affairs said, “Basically this system has been introduced on UGC guidelines and there are objectives behind introducing this system in colleges.”
He said that this system will have core courses plus open choice courses in which students will be taking skill enhancement courses.
“All over the world the level of unemployed graduates is increasing. In order to create employment avenues for them, CBCS will be adopted. Apart from being academically enriched it will have skill courses to generate the employment avenues for students.”
CBCS, he added, will also be beneficial for the students who will opt for other universities after first semester. “They can start from second semester straightaway without losing their precious time. The idea is to make transit of students from one institution to other, hassle free and smooth.”
He said that CBCS will replace erstwhile marks system and students now will be provided grades according to their percentage.
