SRINAGAR

Renowned Supreme Court lawyer and chairman of Kashmir committee Ram Jethmalani along with two other track-II diplomats, are arriving here on May 8 to meet separatists including that of Syed Ali Geelani.

Sources privy to this development told KNS Jethmalani is arriving on May 8 and is scheduled to stay for three days in Srinagar. He will be accompanied by Madhu Purnima Kishwar, an academic and writer, Dr Sultanpuri, a Kashmiri scholar presently based in New Delhi.

The trio will hold series of talks with the separatist leaders in Kashmir and would also meet civil society members and other social activists. Sources said the main propose of Jethmalani’s visit is to understand the Kashmir’s present political situation and engage the separatist leaders in dialogue with New Delhi.

They said that the team is also going to hold a round table conference in Srinagar over the resolution of Kashmir wherein the separatist leaders and civil society activists shall be invited to present their point of view. “It will be a step to resume the contact between New Delhi and Srinagar that was lost somewhere in the middle during the past,” sources said.

Jethmalani during his previous visit to Srinagar had stated that Kashmir Committee has all along been alive. “However, sometimes we do hide as we face criticism of interfering in some peoples’ work and we do our work without publicity. Till I am alive, Kashmir Committee will be alive,” Jethmalani had told reporters here on August 16 last year.

Pertinently, the committee was constituted in 2002 to reach out to separatist here and Jethmalani earlier headed it.
