Dr Ashraf, currently serving as the Professor of Endocrinology & Metabolism and Sub-Dean of Research at SKIMS Srinagar, will receive this oration at ESICON-2023, scheduled to take place in Hyderabad from December 14th to 17th, 2023.

The Subhash Mukherjee Memorial Oration pays tribute to the legacy of Dr Subhash Mukherjee, a revered Indian scientist and physician renowned for pioneering in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and overseeing India’s second-ever test tube baby’s birth.

Dr Mukherjee collaborated with Sunit Mukherji, a cryobiologist, and Dr Saroj Kanti Bhattacharya, a gynecologist, during the groundbreaking IVF project at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata. Dr Mukherjee, who began his tenure as a professor at NRS Medical College in Calcutta in 1967, ushered in India’s first test-tube baby, affectionately named “Durga.”

Dr Ashraf has earned the “Subhash Mukherjee Memorial Oration-2023” in recognition of his extensive research in endocrine and metabolic disorders. He was recently appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Task Force established by the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) to conduct a comprehensive study on health issues affecting populations residing in, or visiting, high-altitude areas, including Sub-Himalayan regions.

It’s worth noting that Dr Ashraf has dedicated many years to researching lifestyle disorders and has published numerous research papers on this topic. Prior to joining SKIMS Soura, he held the position of Associate Professor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

At SKIMS, Dr Ashraf has spearheaded various initiatives aimed at fostering a robust research environment, including the establishment of the Department of Clinical Research and the Medical Research Unit, among other similar facilities. (ENDS)
