SRINAGAR: Fauz-e-Azeem, a professional Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) player from Kashmir, has been nominated in the Rookie Esports Player of the Year category at the inaugural Krafton Esports India Awards, marking the first time a gamer from the region has received a nomination at the national-level event, organisers said.

Known in competitive gaming circles by his in-game name Kalyug, Fauz-e-Azeem was shortlisted by Krafton Esports India for his consistent performances across major BGMI tournaments. The awards ceremony, held in Mumbai, brought together leading players, teams and stakeholders from India’s rapidly growing e-sports industry.
The nomination follows a series of notable results by the Kashmiri player in high-pressure LAN and national competitions. His achievements include winning the Sky Realme LAN Championship, finishing 17th overall at BGIS 2023, securing eighth place at the BMPS LAN, and earning recognition as a Most Valuable Player (MVP) contender in multiple tournaments. He also featured strongly at the BGMS LAN and Finals, and performed in the BMSD LAN group stages, officials said.
Fauz-e-Azeem has been active in the BGMI competitive circuit since the game’s inception and has steadily progressed through national rankings, gaining a reputation as a reliable team player and clutch performer. His rise has come despite limited infrastructure and exposure for e-sports athletes in Kashmir.
Industry observers say the nomination is being viewed as a significant milestone for aspiring gamers from the region, highlighting the emergence of Kashmiri talent on India’s national e-sports stage. Krafton’s recognition is expected to further encourage youth from Jammu and Kashmir to pursue competitive gaming as a professional avenue.
With continued participation in national tournaments, Fauz-e-Azeem is expected to remain a contender in upcoming BGMI seasons as India’s e-sports ecosystem continues to expand.
