Food Safety Department Busts Fake Honey, Desi Ghee Racket in Srinagar

   

SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Department Jammu and Kashmir has busted a racket involved in the preparation and sale of fake honey and fake desi ghee in Srinagar.

Sources said that teams of the department conducted raids at Barthana and Qamarwari areas of the city and unearthed an illegal unit engaged in manufacturing adulterated food products. During the operation, a huge quantity of hydrogenated oil was recovered, which was being mixed and sold as desi ghee on roadsides.

Sources further said that sugar and other material used to prepare a mixture being sold as local honey were also seized from the spot.

The adulterated products were being supplied in the local market, posing a serious risk to public health. Samples have been collected for laboratory testing and further action will be taken as per law.
