Senior Kashmiri photo journalist, Mukhtar Khan, Tuesday bagged prestigious international award.

Mukhtar Khan, who is covering Kashmir for over 20 years now, joined international news agency, Associated Press (AP) in 2001 and was declared winner of prestigious United States based Atlanta Photo Journalism Award.

He is AP’s Srinagar based photo journalist.

A resident of Fateh Kadal in Old Srinagar city, Mukhtar’s work has been published by New York Times (NYT), The Guardian London; Indian magazines including Outlook, India Today besides, The Kashmir Monitor, Aftab, Subah-i-Kashmir, Himalyan Mail, Taskeen, and Kashmir Observer.

Besides, Mukhtar has is a trained journalist to work in “hostile environment” situations. He was given training to work in conflict regions in London in 2009.

Speaking to Kashmir Life, Mukhtar said, “this indeed is recognition of hard work done by Kashmiri journalist.”

Notably, some more Kashmiri journalists were awarded, recently, for their work including Irfan Hakeem of ET, Riyaz Wani of Tehelka and Dar Yasin of AP.

“I have been awarded in features category along with a Japanese journalist,” Mukhtar said, “the award ceremony shall be held in the Unites States soon.”
