Nabi joined Surrey two days before the match and is part of a side that also includes fellow Indians Mahipal Lomror and KL Rahul. Their selection marks the first known instance of three Indian players representing the same county side in a first-class match.

Surrey, 23-time county champions, have signed Nabi for three County Championship matches. He is also scheduled to feature against Sussex in Hove on September 8 and Glamorgan at The Oval on September 15.

The Kashmir seamer’s county stint follows his maiden India call-up as a replacement for injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the recent Test series against Sri Lanka. Nabi, however, did not make his international debut after India opted for two pace bowlers in both Tests.

He is expected to return in time to join India A for their series against Australia A, beginning on September 22.

Nabi has emerged as one of Jammu and Kashmir’s leading pace bowlers, taking 100 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. He also attracted attention in the 2025 Duleep Trophy after taking four wickets in four deliveries for North Zone.

The pacer was subsequently signed by Delhi Capitals in the 2026 season and played five matches for the franchise.
