SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms during the next 24 hours, with isolated heavy rainfall forecast over the Jammu division, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said on Wednesday.
The weather department said widespread moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms were recorded across Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours till 8:30 am on Wednesday.
The highest rainfall during the period was recorded at P/T Kathua, which received 101.8 mm of rain.
According to the Meteorological Centre, maximum day temperatures remained 0-1°C below normal at many places in the Kashmir division, while they were 1-2°C below normal at many places in the Jammu division.
Kupwara recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir at 29.5°C, while Jammu and Kathua recorded the highest maximum temperature in the Jammu division at 32.8°C.
Night temperatures, meanwhile, remained 2-4°C above normal at many places in Kashmir division and 1-3°C above normal at several places in Jammu division.
Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir at 10.6°C, while Bhaderwah recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Jammu division at 16.7°C.
The Meteorological Centre has forecast widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in the Jammu division.
For the following two days, scattered light rain and thunderstorms are expected over J&K. The department’s seven-day outlook indicates scattered activity in Kashmir and Jammu on September 3 and 4, fairly widespread rainfall on September 5, followed by scattered and isolated rainfall activity over the subsequent days.
For Thursday, September 3, Srinagar is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with very light rain or thunderstorms. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 31°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 20°C.
Jammu is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with very light rain or thunderstorms, with the maximum temperature expected to touch around 34°C and the minimum around 27°C.
Muzaffarabad is forecast to have generally cloudy skies with very light rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures likely to remain around 34°C and 27°C. Mirpur is also expected to have generally cloudy skies with very light rain or thunderstorms, with a maximum temperature of around 34°C and minimum of 25°C.
The weather department has not issued any warning for the Kashmir division during the next seven days.
However, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph have been forecast for the Jammu division on September 2 and 3. No such warning has been issued for the remaining days of the forecast period.
The Meteorological Centre said the weather outlook is based on its forecast issued at 11 am on September 2.
As per the bulletin, sunrise in Srinagar on September 3 is expected at 6:05 am, while sunset on September 2 is at 6:56 pm. In Jammu, sunrise is expected at 6:06 am and sunset at 6:54 pm.
