“Shocked to hear about army troops from 50 RR storming into a mosque at Pulwama & forcing muslims inside to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’. Such a move when @AmitShah is here & that too ahead of yatra is simply an act of provocation,” Mehbooba Mufti wrote on Twitter. “Request @RgGhai to immediately set up a probe, (sic).”

Mehbooba’s predecessor, Omar Abdullah also took to Twitter to react to the incident. “Reports of security force personnel entering a mosque in Zadoora in Pulwama are deeply distressing. It’s bad enough they entered but then forcing people to chant slogans like “Jai Shree Ram” as reported by the locals there, is unacceptable,” Omaar wrote. “I hope @rajnathsingh ji will issue instructions for these reports to be investigated in a timely & transparent manner.”

Apni Party founder, Syed Altaf Bukhari also strongly to the incident. “Anguished to learn about an incident taking place in Zadura Pulwama wherein Security Forces have allegedly violated the sanctity of a mosque. The act is highly condemnable and unacceptable to us all,” Bukhari said in his tweet.

“Urge GoI to order an inquiry into the incident on top priority and the officers involved in the act be strictly dealt with, as such acts’ can potentially undo the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in J&K ” he added.

The incident is reported to have taken place during the wee hours on Saturday. After the incident, The Indian Express reported that some “senior Army and police officers visited the village and assured that they would look into the matter.”
