Buoyed by the success of forcing Airport Authority of India (AAI) to drop its plan to set up a liquor shop at Srinagar International Airport, residents of Buchwara on Friday took out a procession to lodge a protest against the running of a wine shop inside a hotel in the locality.

Soon after the Friday prayers ended , a large number of people assembled outside a local mosque and marched in a procession towards the hotel, where they staged a sit in demanding closure of the wine shop.

A police party reached the spot to pacify the agitators. They dispersed peacefully after police assured them that they will take up the matter with the authorities.

Last week, bowing to the public pressure AAI dropped the idea of opening of a liquor shop at Srinagar International airport as state excise department refused to grant license for the purpose.
