On the strike call of Hurriyat patriarch and chairman of his faction Syed Ali Geelani, Kashmir valley is observing shut down against the detention of senior Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam.

Pertinently, Masarat has been booked under Public Safety Act for 27th time and has been lodged at Jammu’s Kotbalwal Jail.

An FIR was lodged against him, Geelani and other member of Geelani faction, Pir Saifullah, for “waiving Pakistani Flags” and raising “Pro-Pakistan slogans” at a rally on April 15 which was organized by Hurriyat (G) on return of Geelani from New Delhi.

Reports said that shops, business establishments, schools and colleges are off while public transport too is not plying on Srinagar roads. Although, movement of light motor vehicles is on in Kashmir parts.

Released in March from detention of over 54 continuous months, Masarat was arrested on April 17 from his Old City residence on charges of “waging war against the country” and sedition.
