Curfew, clashes, protests and complete shutdown marked Maqbool Bhat’s death anniversary in Kashmir. Bhat was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail in 1984 on this day.

In Maisuma, some hundred odd men assembled outside JKLF office, to protest and ask for the mortal remains of Bhat who was hanged and buried inside Tihar Jail some three decades back.

However the protestors were not allowed to march towards the city centre and were taken into custody instead.

Authorities have put restrictions in the six police stations in the old city area as a “preventive measure”.  All entry and exit points leading towards business hub Lal Chowk are blocked by concertina wires to prevent free movement of people and vehicles.

It is for the third day in a row since February 9, that Kashmir is shut.
