Indian Mountain Running Association (IMRA) is going to organize first ever National Mountain Running Championship on April 07, 2013. Athletes from different parts of the country are expected to take part in the championship.

“Three venues have been identified for the Championship which includes Hilly area of Dara Harwan, Hills of Fakeer Gujri and Shankar Acharya in Srinagar. The Championship would be first of its kind in India”, said general secretary IMRA in a statement.

IMRA has been formed two years back in J&K to conduct National and International Championships in India.

IMRA and J&K Mountain Running Association organized somel coaching camps and domestic events in J&K to promote mountain running in the region. IMRA believes that Kashmir and Ladakh regions have enormous potential for mountain running activities. There are several high altitude mountains in J&K where athletes of the country could be trained better so that they would be able to compete at the International level.

J&K mountain running association organized state mountain running Championship in the month of December last year. Some top athletes of the Valley participated in the championship.

Jammu and Kashmir tourism Department also organized a mountain running Championship in Gulmarg in the month of January this year. Tourism Department organized the Championship in collaboration with Indian and J&K mountain Running Association. Large number of Athletes participated in the championship.
