Train service remained suspended for the third day on Friday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, following a protest call given by JRL against the killing of four youths and injuries to others during clashes with government forces near an encounter site at Kulgam on April 11.

An army man was also killed and two others were injured while militants managed to escape due to massive demonstrations in the area.

This was the 8th time train service has been suspended in the valley for security reasons this month.

A senior railway official said that train service will remain suspended today also for security reasons.

A fresh advisory was received from police not to resume the train service for the third day today in south Kashmir for security reasons. Therefore, he said, no train will run on Badgam-Srinagar- Islamabad-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region.

Similarly, trains will not chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir, he added. However, the train was running in north Kashmir on April 11 smoothly.

We are acting on the advice of police and civil administration, a railway official said adding the decision to suspend train service was being taken for the security and safety of passengers and railway property.

Last year train service remained suspended for 50 times partially or fully in the valley. (UNI)
