SRINAGAR: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn will headline “Chauhaan,” an action thriller set against the backdrop of the Kashmir unrest, with the makers unveiling the film’s first teaser and announcing its theatrical release for October 1, 2027.
The title announcement was released on Thursday to coincide with the birth anniversary of Devgn’s late father, veteran action director Veeru Devgan.
Directed by Neeraj Yadav and backed by Jio Studios in association with Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions, the film marks Devgn’s return to the action genre in a lead role.
The teaser is set in Pulwama in 2018 and depicts scenes of unrest, with security personnel confronting crowds amid violence in Kashmir. Devgn appears in the role of Chauhaan, a law enforcement officer tasked with restoring order during the conflict. While the makers have not disclosed the complete storyline, the preview indicates that the film is centred on security operations in the Valley during a turbulent period.
The teaser features the popular song Jumma Chumma De De from the 1991 film Hum and concludes with the dialogue, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai.”
The dialogue quickly became a talking point on social media, where some users interpreted it as a reference to Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 film Pathaan, while others viewed it as a dialogue spoken by the fictional character within the film’s narrative. The filmmakers have not commented on the online speculation.
The announcement also generated mixed reactions online. While many users welcomed Devgn’s return to large-scale action cinema, others questioned the film’s portrayal of Kashmir and debated whether it would be viewed as a political or conflict-based drama. Supporters, however, argued that the film appeared to draw inspiration from real-life security challenges faced in the region.
Apart from the title teaser, the makers have not announced the rest of the cast or revealed additional details about the plot.
“Chauhaan” is scheduled to release in cinemas on October 1, 2027.
