SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley continued to reel under intense cold as a persistent cold wave swept across the region, with most areas recording the coldest night of the season, the Meteorological Department said on Friday.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu Kashmir, recorded its lowest temperature of the season at 0.2°C. Pahalgam, one of the coldest places in the Valley, registered a minimum temperature of -3.0°C, while the ski resort of Gulmarg recorded -2.6°C. Kupwara in north Kashmir saw temperatures drop to -1.3°C, signalling the onset of the region’s severe winter conditions.
Weather officials said temperatures are expected to remain near or below freezing across several parts of the Valley in the coming days. They advised residents to take precautions against the biting cold, particularly the elderly, children, and those living in higher altitudes.
Authorities also warned of slippery and icy road conditions, urging motorists to drive cautiously and use anti-skid measures where necessary.
The Meteorological Department has advised the public to follow regular weather updates and remain prepared for a further dip in temperature as cold winds continue to sweep through the Valley.
