Shazia Jan, 26, a school dropout bagged first award in annual state innovation festival of National Innovation Foundation (NIF) at Rashtripati Bhawan, New Delhi on March 13. She got the award for her innovation modified gas Samovar.
Shazia, a resident of Qazigund was awarded with Rs 50,000 and the second award was received by Abdul Rehman Sada, a resident of Pattan, for his herbal medicine for reducing the blood pressure. He was given consolation award money of Rs 10,000.
The Kashmiri Gas Samovar works on gas as well as on wood coal.
NIF has filed patent for her innovation under patent No. 2744/DEL/2013.
For the development of prototype of her innovation Gas Samovar, NIF funded her Rs 1.75 lakh through GIAN Cell-JK, University of Kashmir.
