A Kashmiri shawl trader was beaten up and robbed of Rs 1,95,000 by unidentified miscreants at Park Circus station of Sealdah division’s south section on Saturday, media reports said.

The incident happened around 1830 hours on Friday while he was crossing the Park Circus station.

The trader alleged that a youth called him and asked him his identity while he was crossing the station to hand over the payment to his mahajan (lender). As he divulged his identity, suddenly the miscreant hit him on his head from the back and then attacked with a knife, inflicting injuries in his stomach and hands, news agency India Blooms reported.

Before he came to his senses, the assailant had escaped with his bag containing Rs 1.95 lakh, the victim stated.

Before he called his friends, who arrived an hour later, a man helped him with water and first aid for the knife injuries.

An FIR was lodged with the Ballygunge Railway station and the GRP launched an investigation into the case. However, no one has been arrested so far in this connection.

The trader Shakoor Ahmad Shah, a resident of Soibugh village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district has been selling Kashmiri shawls for the past eight years in this region, India Blooms reported.
