SRINAGAR: A 24-year-old Kashmiri student from Jamia Millia Islamia was stabbed on Monday following an altercation with two youths in the New Friends Colony area of South East Delhi, police reported on Wednesday.
The injured student, identified as Zeshan from Jammu and Kashmir, was attacked by Tajamul Islam, 22, and his friend Lukman, 23, who are also from Jammu and Kashmir and currently studying at a private university in Noida.
Police confirmed that Tajamul, a native of Srinagar, was arrested on Monday, while Lukman managed to escape. The knife used in the attack has been recovered.
The incident took place while Zeshan and his friend, Safdar Rashid Rathar, another student of Jamia Millia Islamia, were standing in a parking lot. Tajamul and Lukman allegedly passed remarks that led to an argument, which quickly escalated into violence.
“Zeshan sustained a stab injury and was taken to hospital. His condition is now stable,” an officer stated.
A case has been registered at New Friends Colony police station, based on a complaint filed by Safdar Rashid Rathar.
