Four students were arrested after they thrashed a group of students from Kashmir at Mewar University, in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan. The incident happened inside the campus on Friday evening, reported Times Of India.

According to report,t he additional SP Chittorgarh Sarita Singh removed Gangrar SHO Labhu Ram Bishnoi from his post for negligence in handling the dispute. Bishnoi was found to have failed to act promptly on the complaint received from the university administration.

IG Udaipur range Binita Thakur told TOI that the detained students were booked under Section 151 and ruled out involvement of any locals in the incident. All arrested ones were regular students at the university and were natives of Bihar. Late in the evening, all arrested students were released on bail.

The reports quoted eyewitnesses as having said that around 8pm, as the students gathered in the mess for their supper, the students from Bihar went there and attacked the Kashmiri students.

“One of the students was severely injured in the attack and he was taken to a hospital,” web portal Caravan Daily quoted a Kashmiri student as saying, He is Tahir Majeed from the Handwara area of Kashmir valley.

“The petty issue snowballed into a fight between the two groups. Police have swung into action and restored peace in the campus. We have also warned everyone not to spread false information intending to escalate the situation,” Times of India quoted Thakur as having said.

The university administration has claimed that issue has been resolved within hours of the incident. “The fight was between two students’ groups resolved by the university administration immediately. Both the groups have amicably agreed to not proceed with the issue,” newspaper Times Of India quoted Harish Gurnani, director placement and public relations officer as saying.
