A US based Kashmiri Professor held her art exhibition in Srinagar on Monday.

Sadaf Munshi, a professor in Linguistics at North Texas University United States, who is currently in Srinagar, displayed her paintings in Guest House of state’s Art Academy here.

Communication Professor’s exhibition “Islands of Serenity” included diverse themes ranging from conflict to women emancipation to hope. People from all walks of life thronged the exhibition and hailed the move of the US based teacher’s holding exhibition in Srinagar.

“It is indeed great on part of Artist-Professor Munshi to get back to her roots and hold such a beautiful exhibition in Srinagar,” Arshad Saulihah, an acclaimed artist said while commenting up on “Islands of Serenity”.

“As a landscape painter, who paints different forms and moods of nature, the world of visual/optical sensation, which she creates on canvas, encompasses the placid and the tranquil in nature. It is a world of flow, rhythm, reflection, refraction and colour, created through deft application of paint,” reads message from Dr Lalit Gupta in brochure explaining the “Islands of Serenity”.

The exhibition which shall continue on August 19, Tuesday, as well has also painted the recent Gaza Carnage named ‘Gaza 2014’. Fresh in their memory, audience, particularly students, were more enthusiastic about the paintings about Gaza carnage and asked for explanation from the Professor in groups.

Profile

Born and brought up in Srinagar, Sadaf Munshi received her early education in Srinagar before moving to Delhi University where from she pursued her Master of Arts and Master in Philosophy in Linguistics. She has R N Shrivastava Gold Medal and Uggrasain Gold Medal awards to her credit as well. She has also done a UGC JR Fellowship.

In 2001, she moved to US for PhD in Linguistics from University of Texas. Currently, she is Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Technical Communication at the University of North Texas, United States.
