SRINAGAR

Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday held a demonstration at Srinagar’s press colony in favour of the students who were enrolled in many colleges outside the state under Prime Ministers special scholarship scheme and were taunted for release of required scholarship money.

The demonstration was led by senior party leader and MLA Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, and others. “Mere silence over the grave issue concerning our youth, who have been taunted on the name of scholarships under prime Ministers Special scholar ship Scheme, has proved how the state government led by Omar Abdullah is destroying the future of youth in the,” Hussain told his party workers and reporters.

He said the career of at least 5000 students from Jammu & Kashmir is at stake as ministry of Human Resource Development has withheld Rs 1200 crores sanctioned for them under the prime ministers special programe.

“As a result, maximum students have left their colleges and are returning home in utter frustration,” he said, adding, “the silence of present dispensation over this grave concern is raising figures about their role by which they made long claims of providing educational and employment facilities to the youth which has been clearly proved hollow and even shows how much it is concerned about the problems of the common masses.”

The senior PDP leader said that instead of addressing this “grave” problem, the government is busy in mass corruption, nepotism and favoritism. “They are more concerned for their own comforts and are pushing our brilliant youth to wall,” he said.

Mansoor went on to say, that the present government has utterly failed on this crucial front and has targeted the youth as ‘enemies of the state’ and demonized them as stone-pelters, drug addicts and criminals.

“Youth are the real asset of a nation and if we fail in realizing their potential we can never hope to build a self-reliant and self respecting nation. No government is worth its salt if it fails the youth,” he said.

He urged the central government to immediately release scholarships in favour of these students who have been suffering since last one and half year for financial help so that their precious future would not be effected.
