Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani continued to remain under house detention on 8th July, Friday.
He missed all the Friday prayers in holy Ramzan and the Eid-ul-Fitr congregational prayers due to the “government policies”.
“Once again today,” Hurriyat Conference (g) statement said this evening, “he was barred from offering the Friday prayers. It is the 15th Friday in 2016 when the 86 years old pro-freedom leader was forcibly stopped by the authorities to take part in this important religious obligation.”
While terming the government action as “state terrorism and interference into the religious affairs”, Hurriyat Conference (g) condemned it in strong words.
Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and Shabir Ahmad Shah too were under continuous detention in the month of Ramzan, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Geelani strongly condemned the imprisonment of Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah Altaf Ahmad Shah, Raja Mehraj-ud-din and Mohammad Ashraf Laya on Eid and barring them from offering the Eid prayers.
“The Indian forces and the police didn’t spare people and Namazi even on Eid and used brutal force against them in Dooru Sopore, Downtown, Islamabad, Pulwama and many other places. The Indian army in Duroo Sopore went berserk and vandalized every household in the area and beat-up the citizens there. The police crackdown against the youths in Srinagar particularly in Downtown area continued on even Eid and many people spent the Eid in jails and police stations. The police went rampage in the Downtown, Islamabad and Pulwama towns and beat-up the youths on the roads and in the regard a police officer of the Khanyar police station played a lead role in torturing and beating of the youths,” Geelani said.
“By celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with Pakistan instead of India, the Kashmiri people has once again showed love and affection and affiliation with Pakistan and the people of that country and it has acted as an another referendum against India,” the octogenarian leader said.
“It was a clear and open referendum of the Kashmiri people that despite the presence of 10 lakh Indian armed forces, the hearts of Kashmiris beat with the Pakistan and they haven’t accepted the forced occupation of India and they are the integral part of the Millat-i-Islami (Islamic Nation),” Geelani asserted.
“The use of excessive force by the Indian forces personnel against the Namazi and youths of the Kashmir reflects their frustration and failure because their all methods and policies of buying the Kashmiri nation have miserably failed so far and they couldn’t control the emotions and feelings of the people here,” he added.
