Communist Party of India leader Brinda Karat Thursday demanded complete withdrawal of military and armed forces from Kashmir and said that injuring people through bullets and using pellets to blind protesters will have serious consequences for India.

“We condemn the oppression and repression of both central and state government on people and believe that Kashmir is a political issue which needs to be addressed politically. The way both Union and State Governments have let loose a reign of terror in Valley is not only condemnable but barbaric as well. There is lot of anger among people who want issue to be resolved without any delay. Kashmir needs to be demilitarized and New Delhi must stop brute force on people,” Brinda Karat told Kashmir based news agency CNS over phone from New Delhi.

Holding both the State and Union Governments responsible for present situation in Kashmir, Brinda Karat said that New Delhi should extra political measures to restore the confidence among affected people.

“The armed forces that are killing people with impunity must be brought to justice. The use of pellets and bullets should be stopped without wasting any time,” she said.

Karat expressed anguish and grief over the frequent use of pellet guns.

“It is highly condemnable that armed forces are using pellets to blind people in Kashmir. Government of India must understand that injuring people through bullets and using pellets to blind protesters will have serious consequences and it will only add fuel to the fire. In no part of the globe protesters are blinded and even minors are not spared and attacked for the fault of their none,” she said and urged upon government of India to find a political solution to the long pending Kashmir issue this time.
