Terming Kashmir a battle between people of India and separatists, union finance minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley Monday termed the present situation in valley “grave”.
Jaitley was speaking during the ongoing Monsoon session wherein Congress grilled the PM Narendra Modi government over the present unrest in Kashmir.
The union minister said prior to the present unrest, “bumper tourist season” was going on in Kashmir with “40 flights” of tourists arriving in valley for vacations.
Blaming Pakistan for fanning out the trouble, Jaitley said, “Pakistan never reconciled with J&K being part of India.”
Without naming Burhan Wani, Jaitley turned down the reaction triggered by young militant’s killing across Kashmir. “People’s ire was directed at police and paramilitary,” he said, adding that the level of force used on protesters should be left on officers on ground.
While making an appeal to youth to distance themselves from the present unrest in valley, Jaitley turned down the Congress’ charge that BJP-PDP alliance and prime time news programmes have fanning out the present situation.
Earlier while speaking in ongoing monsoon session, Congress’ Rajya Sabha leader Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed concern over the situation in Kashmir and called for immediate government action against news TV channels for “escalating the trouble”.
