Kashmir’s Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan secured second place in the 2015 IAS examination. The results were announced on Tuesday evening.

A total of 1,078 candidates cleared the UPSC exam — 499 from the general category, 314 from the other backward classes, 176 from the scheduled castes and 89 from the scheduled tribes.

Tina Dabi from New Delhi topped the test.

Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan and Delhi’s Jasmeet Singh Sandhu, are second and third toppers.

Youngest to qualify IAS from Kashmir to crack the prestigious examination, Athar hails from Devipora village in Mattan area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad district.

In 2015, he was one of the seven Kashmiris selected in the service.

An alumnus of Iqbal Memorial Institute Islamabad, he moved to Tyndale Biscoe Srinagar in 2009 for twelfth class.

Other Kashmiris who made it to IAS this year include: Deeba (281), Ruveda (764), Sheema Nabi (205), Shakil Ahmad Ganai (273).
