SRINAGAR: A Border Security Force (BSF) havaldar has killed his wife, then burnt her and finally killed self, a Chandigarh newspaper reported. He was identified as Neelam Kumar, a resident of Saiswan village in Jammu’s Kathua district.

The woman, his third wife, is reported to have been first killed by her husband and then set her body on fire after putting it in a wheat straw dump in his own village.

“Ritu Devi, daughter of Mashu Ram of Basohli, was reportedly the third wife of Neelam Kumar and was living with him for the last few months,” newspaper Tribune reported. “However, the families and the police did not confirm it.”

The BSF man, finally, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in the village.

It was the BSF man’s brother Jagdish Raj who noticed the smoke coming out of the dump and was shocked to see the body of a woman in it. “He raised an alarm and informed the local people,” sources told the newspaper. “In the meantime, people got the information about the death of Neelam Kumar.”

“Neelam Kumar, who was posted in Samba, came along with Ritu to his house at Saiswan village on Sunday night. The badly burnt body of Ritu was spotted near the house while the body of Neelam Kumar was recovered from the rail tracks,” the newspaper quoted police sources saying.
