Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) has blamed ‘jingoistic’ communal parties for Kishtwar riots and demanded an immediate ban on all such “so called” social and political parties in the state.

In a statement a spokesperson of the KCSDS said, “We believe that the parties like BJP, Shiv Sena, VHP and Bajrang Dal have no place in J&K where people of all faiths have been living in harmony for centuries. No politician of these parties should be allowed to enter the state to fulfil his or her ulterior motives, the local politicians of these parties need to be booked for their nefarious activities and direct involvement in the Kishtiwar incidents.”

Commenting on Arun Jaitley’s proposed visit to Kishtwar, KCSDS reminded people that he has the record of abating communalism in the name of jingoistic “nationalism.” “Jaitley was part of the high level parliamentary delegation that visited Kashmir in September 2010 in order to calm down people who were agitating on the brutal killing of more than 120 teenagers by Indian forces. And when situation was cooling down, he along with his party colleague Sushma Swaraj decided to lead a march to Kashmir to hoist tri-color in Srinagar on January 26, in an attempt to get more Muslims killed in Kashmir,” the statement claimed.

The KCSDS appealed the people of Jammu and Kashmir not to fall prey to such ‘fascist elements’ and help in reviving and nourishing age old peace and harmony in the state based on the  respect of each others faith and greet and join each other on the occasion of festivals like Eid.

While condemning the Kishtwar happenings KCSDS has termed it “as an ugly manifestation of the creation and patronage which the VDCs have received from the state caused to the people of the state.” KCSDS has demanded an immediate disbanding of the VDC’s and arresting of communal and anti-social elements who created trouble in Kishtwar.

“KCSDS is outraged by the criminal failure of state machinery to handle the situation and provide protection to its citizens and their properties. KCSDS condemns in strongest terms the exhibition of hooliganism by communal forces in Jammu on Saturday during which various movable and immovable properties belonging to the minority Muslim community were vandalised besides terrorising and injuring the owners. KCSDS demands sternest action against the culprits of the heinous crimes in Kistwar and demands that state government must take all measures for reining in criminal communal elements to make possible and a permanent feature the peaceful co existence of different communities,” spokesperson said.
