SRINAGAR: On the second day of the Khelo India Winter Games, the Golf Club Gulmarg hosted the Nordic Sprint for men, covering a distance of 1.6 KM, with 36 participants in action.

The Army showcased its dominance once more, with Manjeet clinching the Gold Medal, followed by Padma Namgial with Silver and Rameez Ahmad Padder with Bronze. Notably, Manjeet, representing the Army, had also secured the Silver Medal during the previous day’s events.

The athletes gathered at various venues to compete in Nordic Skiing, Alpine Skiing, Ski Mountaineering, and Snowboarding events scheduled for the day.

In the women’s category of the 5KM Nordic Sprint event, Bhavani Thekeda Nanjunda from Karnataka secured the Gold Medal, while Sapna and Prince Kumari representing ITBP received Silver and Bronze respectively.

The highlights of the Khelo India Winter Games on the second day were the events held at Kongdoori, including Giant Slalom, Run Slalom, and Mountaineering Sprints for Men and Women groups.

In the Giant Slalom event for Women at Kangdoori, Himachal Pradesh dominated as Anchal Thakur, Tunaja Thakur, and Promila Thakur claimed Gold, Silver, and Bronze respectively.

In the Mountaineering Skiing Sprint, Menka Gunjiyal from Uttarakhand clinched the Gold medal, with Shazia Hassan from JK securing Silver and Kaamya Kathikeyan from Maharashtra taking Bronze.

The Mountaineering Skiing event for Men’s category was flagged off by Olympian Shiva Keshavan at Kangdoori. The Sprint race concluded with Mayank Dimiri from Uttarakhand winning the Gold Medal, while Shahid Ahmad Chichi and Mehraj Ud Din Bhat from JK secured Silver and Bronze respectively.

It was indeed a golden day for Uttarakhand as another player from the state won the Gold medal in Mountaineering Skiing at Kangdoori. Mayank expressed pride in his performance and highlighted the differences between the slopes of Gulmarg and Uttarakhand, noting that the vertical slopes here are ideal for skiing.
