Khyber Industries five star hotel, Khyber Resorts is formally being launched on December 20. Dr Farooq Abdullah is scheduled to preside over the function. The launch marks Kashmir’s major industry groups formal entry into the hospitality sector that will also offer Gulmarg, Kashmir’s main holiday resort, the first major hotel.

The 85 room property took an investment of more than Rs 100 crores and nearly three years to build. The Mountain Resort and Spa situated at an elevation of 8,825 ft has Signature Cottages, Club Rooms, Premier Rooms, and Presidential Rooms, all equipped with modern amenities, superlative services and offer panoramic views of the Gulmarg.

What makes this investment different is that the hotel is being managed by a US hospitality major Hotel management company, Interstate Hotels and Resorts that operates a vast chain of hotels across continents.

The hotel is strategically located on the slopes adjacent to the famous cable car project and just a stones throw from the major ski slopes in the belt.

Promoters told Kashmir Life that the resort is built in a style true to the architectural heritage of Kashmir. In every way the indoors mirror the beauty of the outdoors. Specialty restaurants, a cigar lounge, a well-appointed spa and a heated swimming pool are amongst the necessary luxuries in place. Add to these other thoughtful additions like our children’s club, a mini theater and a dedicated Activities Concierge. “This hotel is at par with the best hotels of the world and first if its kind in Kashmir,” one of the director of the company said.

The hotel management plans a series of packages that will attract the high end tourist with different interests including trekking, cycling, safaris, besides the routine winter sports.
