Minister of State for Industries and Commerce (Independent Charge), Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo Friday laid foundation stone of Shah-e-Hamdan shopping complex at Khayam in Srinagar which is being constructed by the Srinagar Municipal Coporation. He was joined by the local MLA Shameema Firdous is laying the foundation stone while Commissioner SMC Dr G N Qasba was also present on the occasion.

While speaking on the occasion, Kichloo stressed on the need of such projects to be taken up necessarily at the places where such initiatives are required.

“As public servants we are always committed to work and deliver our services in the best interest of the public with larger focus on addressing the problems of poor and needy”, he said.

Kichloo asked the SMC to give locals of the area the first preference during the allotment of shops.

Addressing a gathering of people on the occasion, the Minister called upon SMC authorities to facilitate people and address their issues pertaining to basic amenities on priority. “In our review meeting of SMC held earlier this week, I have asked the Municipal Commissioner to keep a dedicated helpline service available at the disposal of people so that their issues are addressed in real time,” he said.

Calling upon SMC to issue building permissions as per revised bye-laws of Srinagar Master Plan, the Minister asked its enforcement wing to take strong action against violators. “We cannot allow summer capital to come up haphazardly. I will take strong action against those people who don’t stick to revised guidelines of Srinagar Master Plan,” the Minister emphazised. Kichloo asked SMC to complete the shopping complex project within the stipulated time frame.

On the occasion MLA Habba Kadal Shamima Firdous while addressing people said the proposed project will benefit the locals as the complex besides having medical facilities, public convenience, ATM facilities and other daily essential facilities will also have the facility of community hall for the residents/inhabitants of the area so that they could organize the marriage parties or any other social gatherings at ease.

She further said that the government will come up with the two more community halls in the area and shall also rehabilitate the Auto Rickshaws’ at a proper place to avoid shrinking of space for pedestrians and for the free flow of traffic which otherwise creates difficulties for the by passers

While addressing the locals SMC Commissioner Dr Qasba assured people speedy work on the project assuring them of completion of project within a time bound manner

“The five storied shopping complex with basement area for parking facility and other modern facilities shall have twenty seven shops and six office halls on a plinth area 4898.50 Sft. and the total cost involvement of the project is Rs. 430.00 laks”, said Executive Engineer Right River Works Ishtiyak Ahmed Shah.
